WE SAY India is Independent Country, The woman’s was safe But there is an Dark reality.
India, the country where women are called godesses. However, this facade is not the truth that women in India experience as they are anything but safe. The harrowing tale of Dr Maumita from West Bengal underscores nothing if not systemic failures and the enduring grip societal norms exert in allowing such violence against women to transpire. It shines a light on the terrifying conditions in which she died, the cover-ups and the darkness that too many of us turn away from.
What Happened to Docter Maumita?
He was a respected physician at Dr.Moumita, always seeing patients and working long hours—double shifts even! She entered the seminar hall of her college after continuously saving lives for 36 hours. For her, it was the place where unimaginable suffering awaited. She was found dead with blood in her mouth, extremely injured and brutally assaulted On August 9 2024.

There, he say the body of Dr. Moumita — mutilated beyond description. Her legs were twisted into what could only happen when the pelvic girdle is shattered. Her glasses broke, blood streamed from her eyes. The evidence supported that she had been garroted. Decomposition of the body had begun which also pointed towards a heinous practice indicating preplanned brutal murder as mentioned in an autopsy report.
Cover Up and No Police Response: A Faltering System
It can be seen from the initial handling of the case that it was a pitiable exercise in negligence and a clumsy coverup of crime. There was an attempted squelching of Dr. Moumita’s death as a suicide, and the police investigation, too, was compromised–fueling suspicion of chicanery. The circuitous route to an arrest and the wreckage of evidence make it a near certainty that this case will be drawn out for years, if not altogether forgotten.
On the other hand, Kolkata Police volunteer Sanjay Roy was using a bluetooth headset, so he could be alleged that it has been more closely linked to crime scene. It is truly shocking considering this predator had a well documented history of violence including an attack on his then pregnant wife over allegations he was molesting women which meant that at the time, there were already grounds to keep him from power and access.
A Corrupt System Saving Its Brethren
Political Connections— the fact that despite multiple earlier offences, the accused was able to roam scot-free due to suspect political connections. West Bengal doesn’t see all of its crimes through a political lens. Despite these assumptions, people are often offered protection whether or not they occupy high political office because the men involved come from potent circles of power.
The then principal of the college where Rohith was murdered, RG,resigned soon after and later went on to become a principal in another Medical College. Such an endless circle of impunity demonstrates how deeply rooted corruption is in the system.
The Unpalatable Truth: How India Has Failed Its Women
Our society is deeply rooted in such thought patterns that are primarily responsible for sustaining gender bias and male chauvinism in India Today, 100 years after the right is granted as inalienable to women, there are still men (and too many other women) who believe that a woman’s place starts and ends at home. And any deviation from this ideal justifies violence — maybe even murder. What is frequently described as merely a sexual act which it in fact is, rape holds far more significance as an instrument of domination used to degrade and subjugate women.
Every working woman to daily harassment — be it unsolicited remarks about her appearance, questions around marital status or out-dated societal norm-driven judgments. Toxic masculinity culture still holds India back in a big way.

Why Change is Necessary: A Call to Action
And it will never be able to progress properly, if fifty per cent of its population is insecure. The case of Moumita is not a one-off but an instance where papers do get written about the killing etc., violence against women happening that remains unseen or are buried as if they never occurred. It is only through systemic change — bringing the perpetrators to justice, eliminating corruption, and taking on social norms that justify and trivialize violence against women.
I CALL men in India, It’s time to grow up and change your mindset. The real recognition of women isn’t relegating them to be worshiped as a goddesses in temple but taking care respect and freedom every woman. Unless such a change occurs, the Dr. Moumita s of our periphery will haunt India forever as tragic testimony to our collective disaster.
